Brown Girl Haircare Routine & Must-Have Products Pt. 3
This week has been hectic, but I’m here—just a day late (more like 2..), but for sure not a dollar short! Lol.
Today, we’re diving into the LOC method in my hair care routine. LOC stands for Leave-In, Oil, and Cream, and it's been a game-changer for locking in moisture, adding shine, and promoting length retention for my kinky tresses. Before we get into that, I have another step I sometimes do right after rinsing out my deep conditioner. It’s a herbal tea rinse, which is amazing for shine, shedding, and growth. Herbal tea rinses have powerful benefits—strengthening the hair while adding shine and reducing shedding. Some of my go-to teas are hibiscus leaf, stinging nettle, and a personal favorite, rosemary and sage. Each of these brings unique benefits, like stimulating the scalp, enhancing shine, and strengthening strands to reduce breakage.
Leave-In Conditioners
Leave-in conditioner is crucial in maintaining moisture, acting as a detangler, and even serving as a light styler. Here are some of my tried-and-true favorites:
As I Am Pomegranate & Passionfruit Leave-In Conditioner
If you can’t tell already, I’m a huge fan of As I Am products! I’ve tried nearly everything in this line, and I can honestly say I’d repurchase it all. This leave-in has a unique consistency, almost like a slimy lotion, but it’s lightweight—not thick, which is ideal for my hair. The hydration this product gives is nearly instant, and it works wonders for twist-outs. When I pair it with a gel, I get definition and moisture with no flaking. Plus, the scent is absolutely delicious! It adds a lasting freshness that makes the whole routine feel luxurious.
OK Naturals Coconut Shea Butter Leave-In
OK Naturals is a brand I splurged on back in the day because they offer a great range of products at budget-friendly prices. I scored this leave-in for only $5! They’re well-known for their Jamaican Black Castor Oil line, a key ingredient for promoting hair growth. Knowing that JBCO can stimulate growth sold me on this leave-in, as I was so focused on keeping my hair healthy and growing. Although my hair doesn’t always absorb coconut oil well, this formula works beautifully because of the added shea butter. It’s thick and rich, so you don’t need much, and it leaves my hair feeling soft and nourished without being weighed down. I would definitely recommend this one, especially if you want a quality leave-in without needing a ton of product.
Camille Rose Honey Hydrate Leave-In
I was all over this product when I first discovered it! This leave-in looks like honey, smells like honey, and has that same sticky, thick consistency. I love how it feels on wet hair, as it’s designed to be applied on damp strands for ultimate moisture. Although it can get a little sticky, the payoff is incredible moisture and shine. This product is truly unique and is sure to leave your curls hydrated and defined. If you’re looking for a deeply moisturizing leave-in, this is the one to try.
These leave-ins each bring something special to keep my curls healthy, defined, and vibrant. I hope these insights help you discover must-haves for your own beautiful, natural hair journey. Embrace your curls, and let your natural beauty shine!
